祝 你 事 業 更 進 一 竿

I wish you surpass your already successful career in the future （ 祝 你 成 功的 事 業 將 來 更 進 一 竿 ） 一 語 ， surpass 是 不 是 應 改 為 surpassing ？

這 一 句 的 surpass 不 應 改 為 surpassing ， 但 wish 、 surpass 兩 字 都 用 得 不 大 妥 當 。
Wish 解 作 「 希 望 」 或 「 祝 願 」 ， 其 後 不 用 that 子 句 （ clause ） ， 而 應 用 兩 個 受 詞 （ object ） ， 其 一 指 受 祝 願 者 ， 其 二 表 達 願 望 ， 例 如 ： （ 1 ） I wish you a happy New Year （ 祝 你 新 年 快 樂 ） 。 （ 2 ） I wish you even greater success in your already successful career （ 祝 你 成 功 的 事 業 更 進 一 竿 ） 。

Wish 之後 用 that 子 句 ， 說 的 事 一 般 難 以 實 現 ， 只 是 願 望 而 已 ， 例 如 ： （ 1 ） I wish you would listen to your mother （ 你 肯 聽 母 親 的 話 就 好 了 ） 。 （ 2 ） I wish I were taller （ 我 真 想 自 己 高 一 點 ） 。 要 說 人 家 有 可 能 成 事 ， 應 用 hope 字 ， 例 如： I hope you surpass your highest career aspirations （ 希 望 你 事 業 成 就 勝意 ） 。

Surpass 是 「 超 過 」 或 「 勝 過 」 。 你 可 以 說 His achievements surpassed his aspirations/ goals/ hopes/ expectations/ dreams （ 他 的 成 就猶 勝 所 願 / 所 望 / 所 期 / 所 想 ） ， 也 可 以 說 The beautiful scenery surpasses description/ portrayal （ 那 美 景 非 筆 墨 所 能 形 容 / 描 繪 ） 等 ， 但 你 不 能 surpass your own career （ 勝 過 自 己 的 事 業 ） 。 至 於 surpassing ， 一 般 作 形 容詞 用 ， 意 思 是 「 非 常 的 」 或 「 超 群 的 」 ， 例 如 ： （ 1 ） He is known for his surpassing skill as an artist （ 他 以 畫 技 不 凡 著 名 ） 。 （ 2 ） Dazed by her surpassing beauty, David stared at her till she blushed （ 大 衞 見 她 那 麼 美麗 ， 呆 了 的 望 ， 望 得 她 臉 都 紅 了 ） 。
