貴 欄 有 例 句 說 ： Being very tired, he slept like a dog （ 他 由 於 十 分 疲 倦 ， 睡 得 很 熟 ） 。 Being 一 字 可 以 刪 去 嗎 ？

拙 文 寫 的 其 實 是 slept like a log ， 不 是 dog 。 Log 是 砍 下 來 作 木 材 的 樹 幹 ， 連 樹 葉 都 削 去 ， 完 全 沒 有 生 命 象 ， 所 以 英 文 以 sleep like a log 比 喻 「 熟 睡 」 。 從 前 ， 還 有 sleep like the dead （ 睡 得 像 死 人 一 樣 ） 、 sleep like a top （ 睡 得 像 陀 螺 一 樣 ） 等 說 法 ： 陀 螺急 轉 時 ， 看 來 紋 絲 不 動 ， 頗 似 熟 睡 的 人 。 不 過 ， 這 兩 個 說 法 今 天 都 很 罕 見 ， 常 說 的是 like a log ， 複 數 是 logs ， 例 如 ： They are sleeping like logs （ 他 們 睡 熟了 ） 。

Being very tired 那 一 句 ， 刪 去 being 一 字 是 可 以 的 。 分 詞 子 句 （ participle clause ） 的 being 一 字 ， 往 往 會 略 去 ， 這 不 妨 多 舉 兩 個 例 子 ： （ 1 ） （ Being ） Rather forgetful, he almost left the restaurant without paying his bill （ 他 很 善 忘 ， 離 開 餐 廳 時 ， 幾 乎 沒 有 付 帳） 。 （ 2 ） （ Being ） A skilled boxer, he won the heavyweight crown （ 他 拳擊 技 術 高 明 ， 贏 得 重 量 級 冠 軍 ） 。
