說 「 在 第 三 頁 」 ， 英 文 是 in page 3 ， on page 3 還 是 at page 3 ？

At page 3 的 at ， 指 在 書 刊 等 的 某 一 處 （ at a certain point in a book, magazine, etc ） ， 例 如 師 要 學 生 「 打 開 書 本 第 十 頁 」 會 說 ： Please open your books at page 10 。 又 如 「 我 們 這 一 課 到 第 十 三 頁 為 止 」 英 文 是 We will stop this lesson at page 13 。

On page 3 的 on ， 是 指 資 料 、 圖 片 等 載 於 該 頁 ， 例 如 ： （ 1 ） The answer to this question is on the last page （ 這 問 題 的 答 案 在 最 後 一 頁 ） 。 （ 2 ） Read the second paragraph on page 3 （ 讀 第 三 頁 第 二 段 ） 。

至 於 in ， 一 般 只 和 複數 形 式 的 pages 連 用 ， 指 「 在 這 些 頁 數 之 中 」 ， 例 如 ： This matter is only perfunctorily treated in the last few pages of the thesis （ 這 問 題 在 論 文最 後 幾 頁 只 有 粗 率 談 論 ） 。

法 庭 上 ， 律 師 常 用 I submit that... 這 說 法 ， 按 香 港 法 例 ， submit 譯 做 「 呈 述 」 。 假 如 律 師 用 中 文 說 「 我 呈 述 什 麼 什 麼 」 ， 是 不 是 有 點 古 怪 ？

根據 The New Oxford Dictionary of English, submit 可 解 作 present （ a proposal, application, or other document ） to a person or body for consideration （ 呈 交 建 議 、 申 請 書 或 其 他 文 件 供 某 人 或 團 體 參 考 ） ， 也 可 解 作 suggest （ especially in judicial contexts ） （ 提 議 ─ ─ 多 為 司 法 界 用 語 ） 。「 呈 述 」 這 譯 法 ， 硬 把 兩 個 意 思 合 而 為 一 ， 說 起 來 當 然 彆 扭 ， 其 實 I submit that 可 以 簡 簡 單 單 譯 做 「 我 認 為 」 ， 例 如 ： I submit that the witness is biased against the defendant （ 我 認 為 證 人 對 被 告 有 偏 見 ） 。
