謹 先 把 句 子 翻 譯 如 後 ： 「 這 些 人 我 們 根 本 不 想 知 道 ： 假 如 不 得 不 面 對 這 些 人 ， 我 們 會 感 到 非 常 憤 怒 。 」

至於 would we feel ， 那 是 倒 裝 句 法 （ inversion ） 。 讀 者 大 概 都 知 道 ， 「 so + 形容 詞 （ adjective ） / 副 詞 （ adverb ） + that + 子 句 （ clause ） 」 這 句 式 ， 常用 來 說 結 果 ， 例 如 ： The rain was so heavy (that) our garden was flooded （大 雨 滂 沱 ， 把 我 們 的 花 園 淹 了 ） 。 要 加 強 語 氣 ， 可 把 「 so + 形 容 詞 / 副 詞 」 置 於句 首 ， 同 時 用 倒 裝 句 法 ， 即 把 動 詞 或 輔 助 動 詞 置 於 主 詞 之 前 ， 例 如 ： So heavy was the rain (that) our garden was flooded 。 有 時 ， so 子 句 會 改 置 句 末 ： Our garden was flooded, so heavy was the rain 。

讀 者 示 下 那 一 句 ， 用的 就 是 這 句 式 。 假 如 不 用 倒 裝 法 ， 可 改 寫 如 下 ： We would feel so enraged if we were forced to confront them head-on that they are the ones (that) we simply don't want to know about 。

「 雞 肋 ─ ─ 食 之 無 味 ， 棄 之 可 惜 」 怎 樣 翻 譯 才 好 ？

北京 外 國 語 學 院 《 漢 英 詞 典 》 把 「 雞 肋 」 譯 做 chicken ribs - things of little value or interest 。 但 things of little value or interest 是 「 沒 有 價 值 或趣 味 的 東 西 」 ， 並 無 「 棄 之 可 惜 」 含 義 ， 表 達 不 出 「 雞 肋 」 的 意 思 。 較 好 的 譯 法 是 something that is neither relishable nor totally unacceptable 。 Relishable 是 「 可 口 的 」 或 「 可 喜 的 」 。
