"My OC in World War I was a charming Irishman named Cusack, who possessed a vigorous stutter," British writer Roland Pertwee once recalled. "On one occasion he was promulgating the proceedings of a court martial in which a second lieutenant had been found guilty of improper conduct with a WAAC. He was making heavy weather of it, and the expression on the faces of the officers present threatened imminent laughter.

"Coming to a description of the actual offence, Cusack stumbled badly. 'They were f-f-f-found in a f-f-f-field and he was ─ he was ─ '

"The laughter exploded and swept the room.

"'You're a d-d-d-dirty lot of devils,' said Cusack. 'He was ─ he was k-k-kissing her.'"

「 丘 薩 克 說 ： 『 你 們 真 是 下 ─ ─ 下 ─ ─ 下 流 鬼 。 當 時 他 正 在 ─ ─ 他 正 在 親 ─ ─ 親 ─ ─ 親 吻 那 女 人 。 』 」

【附 注 】 OC 、 WAAC 是 Officer Commanding 和 Women's Army Auxiliary Corps 的 簡寫 。 Make heavy weather of something 即 「 費 勁 做 一 件 不 那 麼 費 勁 的 事 」 。
